RAGUET, Condy.

A Treatise on Currency and Banking.

Grigg & Elliott, booksellers, Philadelphia: 1839. First edition. 8vo. 264 pp. Raguet (1784-1842), native of Philadelphia, economist, editor, and statesman, was a leader in the 19th-century American free trade movement, spending his later years writing on "problems of currency and the tariff, in both of which subjects he was distinctively in advance of his time" (DAB). Original cloth (rubbed, spine faded), leather spine label; ownership signature from the year of publication, later family inscriptions, rather persistent light foxing, but a very good copy.
