EPHEMERA] [GREETING CARDS.

The art of chromolithography as revealed in a collection of 251 Victoriangreeting cards, primarily Christmas and New Year's cards, but including afew birthday cards, friendship messages, and other general greeting cards,all printed in brilliant chromolithography and assembled by a family ofthe period.

The cards are pasted into a book designed for the purpose Christmas & New Year Cards (decorated title page, printed in brown; 4to, published by Marcus Ward & Co. of London; gilt and black-stamped decorated green cloth), many with a tiny notation in a margin indicating the name of the sender and the year, ranging in date, 1870-1884. Publishers of the cards include Raphael Tuck, Prang, Marcus Ward, and H. Rothe, among others; included among the cards, varying in size from 10 x 8 to 2 x 3 ½ inches, are a pop-up and several that include needlework, pressed flowers, or other materials. Truly a Victorian delight. Several leaves in the album are detached, others are loosening; some offset from the cards, but a very good collection.
