German/Dutch paper doll.

(c. 1800) With a copperplate engraved six and a half inch female doll, shown in side profile. Outfitted with two large costumers, three smaller costumes, a cape, three pairs of legs in pantaloons/shoes, and one hat, all handcolored. Attributed to Johann Ludwig Stahl of Nuremberg, who was probably the first German maker of paper dolls. Housed in the original marbled paper portfolio, with paper bands for holding the clothing, handwritten and labeled in Dutch/old German: "Nurenburger Keukemeio "(cook), "Zomerkleding" (summer clothing), "Turkin", "Preciosa", and "Winterkleding" (winter clothing). Doll is missing feet, else contents about fine, with some damage to portfolio, including missing label on front. (Paper dolls).
