Original Margaret Adams drawing on vellum, with brass binder's block.

Stanbrook Abbey Press n.d Ink on vellum, measuring 2 7/8 by 3 inches. Unsigned. Margaret Adams's drawing is a design for a monogram for the Stanbrook Abbey Press, and shows the initials SAP intertwined, with "1876" wrapped in a calligraphic flourish emanating from the lower part of the "S." The design on the drawing was used on the binding of a special copy of The History of the Stanbrook Abbey Press, which was executed at the Downside Abbey Bindery. The brass binder's block is included here, housed in a hinged, custom-fitted oak box with a leather clasp and the monogram carved into the cover. Both pieces are fine.
