CHURCH, A.H.

Posies for Roundel-Trenchers.

(Gloucester John Bellows) 1885 16mo. (10), (ii) pp. First edition. Printed thoughout in red and black. A collection of sixteen quatrains, twelve of which were inscribed on sets of fruit serving trays -- or roundel trenchers -- by the author. Church is widely known for his writings on English ceramics. The printer, Bellows, is credited with identifying the Roman walls surrounding Gloucester, and is reported to have taught himself French in order to print a French-English dictionary. A rare item, with only one known institutional copy in the U.S. This is a fine copy in gilt-titled limp vellum with green silk ties. T.e.g.
