Typographic plate for Sir Thomas More's Utopia.

Chelsea Ashendene Press 1906 Metal plate containing upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet. Measures approximately 6 by 4 3/4 inches. An original plate containing the lettering designed by Eric Gill, which was used for the Ashendene Press edition of Utopia. The colophon from the original publication states, "This is the first book with marginal notes printed in red. The beautiful large initials, also printed in red, were designed for me by Eric Gill." Two of the initials exhibit some gentle oxidization, otherwise in excellent condition. (Gill 303; See Hornby XXII, and p. 151). (ASHENDENE PRESS).
