A delightful, light-hearted ABC of proverbs with illustrations facing each letter. The introduction by Norman W. Forgue details the events surrounding the first edition of 1938, when water damage in his office ruined most of the copies. After 25 years, Forgue rests assure that Averill would exclaim a similar reaction to this later edition: "I couldn't have done better". With marbled endpapers.
