NY McClure, Phillips 1905 First edition, first binding. This copy belonged to Louise Pound and bears her signature on the front endpaper. Pound was an intimate friend of Cather's during their time at the University of Nebraska, where they were co-editors of "Lasso," a campus magazine. Their relationship only lasted a little more than two years, however, as Pound distanced herself from Cather when the latter wrote an unflattering lampoon of Pound's brother. Faint wear to extremities, slight darkening to spine, and a two-inch slit to inside of front hinge. Still a near fine copy of the author's rare second book.
