Buchbeschreibung

DICKENS, CHARLES.

Little Dorrit.

London Bradbury & Evans 1855-1857 Octavo. Twenty parts in nineteen volumes, as issued. First edition, first issue. With all first issue points as indicated in Hatton and Cleaver, including "Rigaud" for "Blandois" in Part 15. Lacking just one ad. Front cover design and forty interior etchings by Hablot K. Browne, who illustrated most of Dickens's first editions, using both his real name and his nom de plume, "Phiz." Little Dorrit was the author's tenth novel, situated chronologically between the enormously successful Bleak House and A Tale of Two Cities. The story centers on the debtor's prison of Marshalsea, where Dickens's own father was once imprisoned. A fine, bright copy in blue wrappers, with just a few of the spines restored, a few small spots of staining to the interior, and several plates browned as usual. Housed in a red cloth box, which shows a bit of fraying to the upper hinge. (Hatton and Cleaver pp.307-330).
