[MCLEISH, CHARLES]. Ruskin, John.

Pre-Raphaelitism.

London Smith, Elder 1851 Octavo. vi, 68, (ii) pp. First edition. This is the first and most important pamphlet Ruskin wrote in defense of Pre-Raphaelitism. This copy has been bound by Charles McLeish in full dark green levant, featuring a decorative center panel framed by a gilt triple rule. The panel, which appears on both sides, is formed of delicate floral devices, dots, and scrolls. The floral devices appear in the corners of the turn-ins. The binding is dated 1912. McLeish was the finisher at the Doves Bindery until 1909, when he left to establish his own bindery. This copy bears the bookplate of the Brooklyn Public Library, with their call number in pencil on the copyright page and their accession number on the dedication leaf. Spine a trifle darkened, else a fine copy. (Binding).
