Although each chapter was originally a short story published in either The Saturday Evening Post or Scribner's, Faulkner linked the stories narratively in order to present them here in novel form. The first of Faulkner's novels published in America with illustrations, and considered by some to be one of his most accessible. Fine in gray cloth boards with an illustrated cover and the spine stamped in red and black. With dust jacket, which has a small piece torn from the bottom of the back panel at the flap fold and a small split to the bottom front cover, also at the fold. Housed in leather-backed cloth slipcase. (Petersen A19.2).
