A studyof illustrated, publisher, and designer bookbindings of the period, with numerous reproductions of book covers and bindings issued in France and elsewhere. Designed and illustrated in Art Nouveau style, with decorative initials adorned with flowers and painter's palates, and chapter headings featuring books and tools used in book arts intertwined with branches and flowers. Both are by Léon Rudnicki, a French painter and set designer who collaborated with Uzanne on several occasions. Also illustrated throughout with many monochromatic examples of book covers and decoration subsequent to text. In keeping with the subject matter, the book opens with two variations on the title page design, and the original pictorial wrappers have been preserved in the rear. Bound in quarter green morocco and green cloth, with morocco corner pieces. Gilt floral decorations to leather portion of boards and to spine. Title in gilt on spine. Lightly marbled endpapers. Some offsetting to endpapers, minor spotting to preliminaries, toning to spine, corners slightly bumped, else fine.
