A study of late nineteenth century bookbindings, illustrated with 72 full-page tinted photographs of bindings, each plate protected by a leaf of tissue printed with information about the binding. Each chapter also with head- and tailpiece illustrations as well as ornamental initials. Frontispiece by Albert Lynch. Original burgundy illustrated wrappers bound in. In a handsome full morocco binding, blue, with simple gilt design to boards and more elaborate gilt work to spine within compartments. Gilt lettering to spine. Marbled endpapers. Minor abrasions at hinges, few small scratches to boards, some staining around frontispiece. About fine. T.e.g. Bookplate.
