[KONIG, WILHELM].

Il Callotto resuscitato. Oder Neü eingerichtes Zwerchen Cabinet.

Amsterdam Wilhelmus Konig (c. 1716) Octavo. 64 ff. This work contains a title page and 57 numbered plates engraved by Fopje Folkema, J. van Sasse, and others after designs by Wilhelm Konig. The intricate engravings depict grotesque and satirical caricatures of dwarfs, and are followed by humorous stanzas in French, German, and Dutch. The book is divided into two sections, each of which begins with a list of plates written in Dutch and French. The plates are numbered one to fifty, with number 24 followed by plates A through E and number 50 followed by plates A through C. OCLC records one copy of the 1716 edition and one other undated copy. Another edition containing an additional twenty plates appeared in 1720. Bound in contemporary vellum over boards. Spine sunned and lacking all but a small piece of the spine label, small abrasion to front cover, slight bumping to corners, boards slightly warped. A black morocco bookplate on the front pastedown displays the name and coat-of-arms of Edward Hailctone. Note on the first leaf written in French and dated 1953 describes the book. A near fine copy of an intriguing and rare book. (Cohen v.2, pp.722-723; Graesse v.4, pp.574)
