A NEW & ELEGANT SET OF ALPHABETICAL COPY LINES. ROUND TEXT.

(Philadelphia) Johnson & Warner (c. 1808) Oblong octavo, narrow. (20) ff. First edition. Bound withAn Alphabetical Set of Round Hand Copies and An Alphabetical Set of Running Hand Copies, as issued. A book of engraved lettering samples, the third part of which contains an alphabet in both old English and German. In his book American Penmanship, 1800-1850, Nash lists only the third part of this volume. Bound in original plain gray wrappers, which are torn at the spine with some loss of paper but otherwise fully intact. Worm holes also to front cover and first several leaves, section torn from rear pastedown, owner's inscription in three places, some toning and foxing throughout interior. A nice copy of a rare book on penmanship, with no copies listed on OCLC.
