Paris (after 1812) Small quarto. (23) ff. An original calligraphic manuscript by the nineteenth century French calligrapher Bertrand, author of Le Petite Calligraphe. Contains a calligraphed title-page and twenty leaves of alphabets and other lettering samples, almost all of them with elegant scroll work borders, hand drawn. One of the samples is signed by Bertrand. Bound in marbled paper boards with a leather label to the spine, with the original dark brown wrappers bound in. Each leaf has been expertly backed with a strip of vellum for added reinforcement. Minor rubbing to the spine head and foot as well as the hinges, minor staining and handwriting to original wrappers, else a fine copy of a lovely hand-lettered manuscript.
