WESTON, JAMES.

Stenography Compleated, Or the Art of Short-Hand Brought to Perfection; Being the most Easy, Exact, Speedy, and Legible Method extant etc. etc.

London James Weston 1738 Octavo. (10), xl, (160), 16 pp. An early edition of an instruction manual by the father of shorthand. Consists of lessons for and examples of various modes of shorthand, preceded by a short Preface and followed by an "Observations and Explications" section. Includes a frontispiece engraved portrait of the author and two additional full-page engravings between sections. Handsomely bound in later chocolate brown calf, blind tooled on the covers and with a gilt-lettered morocco label on the spine, which is in six compartments. Aside from small dark stains in the margins of a few leaves, this is a fine and bright copy of a comprehensive system of writing that the author himself developed.
