NY The Century Company 1904 Small quarto. xii, 270 pp. First edition. Illustrated with 52 plates, twenty-six of which are from paintings and drawings by Maxfield Parrish. Both Wharton and Parrish traveled to Italy for this project, which was first serialized in The Century Magazine. According to Coy Ludwig, this book "provided an avenue of expression for Parrish's architectural interests, as well as for his growing desire to paint landscapes." Few very light scuffs to back cover, minute bumps to corners of front cover, else a very fine copy in dark green cloth with bright gilt cover medallion. With rare original prospectus laid in.
