Shaw, George Bernard.

Shaw Gives Himself Away: An Autobiographical Miscellany.

(Newtown) Gregynog Press 1939 Octavo. xi, 188 pp. First edition. Wood engraved frontispiece portrait of Shaw by John Farleigh. From an edition of 300 copies, this is one of twenty-one bound in full black-green Oasis to a design by George Fisher. This is a wonderfully elegant design of vertical lines of varying widths interspersed with six lozenge-shaped groups of narrower lines. Areas of similar pattern appear on the spine, and the whole is surrounded by a double gilt-ruled frame. The binding on this copy differs slightly from that which is pictured in the catalog of the Margaret Davies collection in that it does not have the alternating onlaid green and red morocco trim within the outer border. Extremely fine in a morocco-trimmed slipcase. Prospectus laid in. (Harrop 40; Davies 40). (Binding).
