SASSOON, SIEGFRIED.
Nativity.
N.p. n.d Holograph manuscript in black ink on a single sheet measuring 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Signed by the author. Siegfried Sassoon began writing poetry in a Romantic style but was influenced by the work of his friend, the poet Robert Graves, and is best known for his satirical anti-war verse. Sassoon served in the military during World War I and was deeply affected by the horrors that he witnessed. Although this manuscript is undated, "Nativity" was published in 1927 as the seventh in Sassoon's series of Ariel Poems and it stands in contrast with Sassoon's grim and gritty war poetry, speaking of renewal and hope. In extremely fine condition.
