Vienna Ulrich Mayer 1827 16mo. (63)ff. Early nineteenth-century Viennese almanac bound in original Dutch or German paste papers with floral gold foil designs. Features six bright, hand-colored plates of costumes that are not included in any of the major costume book references. Also illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and six detailed black-and-white engravings that tell a story of courtship. Printed in red and black. Almanacs provided a way to keep track of everything from dates and holidays to currency exchanges and the phases of the moon. In keeping with the almanac's practical purpose, several pages are annotated in pencil or blue ink, which at times has bled through the page. Else fine, and an unusual and unique example of its kind.
