MUNARI, BRUNO.

(Libro Illeggibile N.Y. 1).

New York Museum of Modern Art 1967 Square octavo. 20ff. One of an unspecified number of copies. Purely illustrated, without any text, this "unreadable" book uses colors, shapes, cutouts, and a piece of red string that threads through the pages to carry the story forward. According to the description published in the back of the book, "The 'unreadable' book was first conceived by Munari in 1949, and exhibited the same year at the Salto Bookshop in Milan." An exhibition of Munari's works was held in 1955 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This particular "unreadable" book was designed by Munari exclusively for The Museum of Modern Art. Extremely fine in flexible paper boards with a spiral and dot design on the front cover.
