Connolly cites a typescript for a radio broadcast by John Lehmann, who calls this novel "a major achievement both intellectually and artistically," noting in particular Greene's near-poetic symbolism. Very slight spine lean, endleaves toned from wartime paper, else fine in the increasingly rare dust wrapper, which shows light, even toning to spine and few small chips to spine ends. It is especially uncommon to find a copy with the dust wrapper in such fine, bright condition. (Wobbe A16.a; Connolly 88).
