1878 FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER. MENLO PARK: THOMAS EDISON. A hand- colored, full page from the March 30, 1878 issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, with the lower half showing a scene in Thomas Edison's Menlo Park, New Jersey, laboratory. Captioned "New Jersey.- Professor Edison Exhibiting The Phonograph To Visitors. At His Laboratory, Menlo Park." The scene shows Edison, eight adults and one child listening to the phonograph. There are also two smaller images of the phonograph and the sheet of tin foil used to record the sounds. The upper half of the page contains a portrait of Bayard Taylor and an article about his ministry to Germany.
