FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER
SEA BRIGHT/ U.S. LIFE-SAVING SERVICE
1873 [SEA BRIGHT/ U.S. LIFE-SAVING SERVICE]. FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER. "NEW JERSEY- THELIFE-SAVING SERVICE- THE ALARM- A SCENE IN THE LIFE-SAVING STATION AT SEA BRIGHT." From A Sketch by Joseph Becker. A hand- colored, 11-inch by 15.5-inch page from "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper," February 15, 1873. The scene depicts life-savers gathered around a wood stove and peering out a small window to see a shipreck in the ocean. The men are pulling on their boots and gathering ropes to begin rescue operations. An uncommon print! This rescue station still exists on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright. Very Good (some soil to the right margin).
