Poetry based to some extent on Maori legends, a delightful collection of New Zealand poetry written about issues of the day in the early 1880's includes a printed dedication to Sir George Grey.The introduction tries to make the case that in the young countries like America and New Zealand , besides Walt Whitman, there are now locally grown Poets. Suggesting that Bracken is New Zealands home grown master poet .
