Boston Houghton Mifflin 1912 Limited 50 volumes. First volume has an extra illustrated title page. All volumes begin with a sepia photograph, protected by lettered tissue, followed by frontispieces in two states (one in color and one in b/w signed in pencil by the artist). Copious illustrations throughout, each in two states. Large 8vo, superbly bound at Riverside Press in full crimson morocco with ornately gilt covers and spines; matching green leather doublures with owner's name and coat-of-arms in gilt, black silk moire endpapers; uncut edges, t.e.g. Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1912-1913. Large-Paper edition. Two volumes (37 & 39) are neatly repaired at spine heads, otherwise a fine set in a lovely binding. hardcover near fine Limited edition (number 7 of 375 copies printed at the Riverside Press) with a double-sided handwritten letter by Scott mounted in first volume. The undated letter mentions a review of letters, a problem concerning books lent, and other current matters of concern. Another single-page note, penned with Mrs. Scott's compliments to receive a visitor at their Castle Street home, is also present.
