MEDICINE -- John W. Francis

American physician who founded the New York Academy of Medicine. A.L.S. responding to recipient's request for his autograph as well as that of Dr. David Hosack's. 1 page, 8vo. N.Y., Aug. 20, 1858.

Signed in full: "Your letter touching autographs came duly at hand. There is a stirring energy for collections of that nature. I evince to you my desire to gratify you, by cutting from an old volume Dr. Hosack's autograph written 50 years ago. As to my own, my good friend, it can hardly be deemed worthy of a place in your cabinet..." The signature of Dr. Hosack (attached when Francis originally sent the letter) is not included.
