1872 Autographed letter signed to former Confederate Major General and drafter of the Confederationon State of Georgia executive letterhead, with holograph envelope bearing the Executive Department seal and a note on its verso. Addressed "General," Alexander writes of a judge's seat becoming available, and after listing the qualities of the probable candidate, ends with "...I think the Governor has not yet given up his designs on you." 8vo, 3 pages, with an autographed note in pencil on verso by Benning responding to the content. Atlanta. July 7, 1872. very good From Benning's unsigned note: "I have heard that there is some sort of a rumor about Columbus that I am to be some sort of Judge! I can't imagine who was foolish enough to start such a report..."
