England, Sept. 9, 1798. British Field Marshall and Governor General in colonial India. paperback very good Signed in full by Thompson, written in a neat and elegant hand: "...Jacob does not talk of coming this way...he may make a Visit to Europe & America for two or three years meaning to return to India he was at the eve of Promotion & had been thanked by Lord Cornwallis for his service whilest he commanded the Detachment with the...Army...says he [Cornwallis] is above 6 foot 6 inches tall and square made...so that he must appear a very large man--he is universally liked & has great influence thoughout that Country..."
