Paris: Chez M. Ponce, Graveur de Mgr. Comte d’Artois...et chez M. Godefrey, Graveur de Sa Majesté Imperiale... [1784 ca.] 4to. 270 x 235mm. Contemporary (probably original) marbled boards. Engraved throughout on 16 copperplates, includes title, 2 maps and 13 plates illustrating scenes from the revolutionary war including: Journée de Lexington, Sarratoga, Attaque de Bristomhill etc., etc, with textual descriptions of the scenes below, laid paper tissue guards. Board edges show a little wear, a few light spots, nevertheless this is a near fine copy with the plates in crisp dark impressions. First edition, a fascinating french depiction of the American War of Independence, the first French book to mention the United States on the title-page. This album was reproduced in full facsimile as the United States prepared for its bicentennial celebration. Sabin 68421; Howes C576.
