London: Golden Cockerel Press 1937 Small folio, original blue cloth gilt. Illustrated. Very good. One of 375 copies. A succinct account of the beginnings of Australia’s first settlement, based upon reprintings of authentic original documents pertaining to that undertaking, including the correspondence and records of Governor Arthur Phillips. Portions of this work had never been published before: “Some of this material is now printed for the first time; the more important documents appear in the historical records of New South Wales, published in Sydney in 1892” (p.20). Owen Rutter is also the editor of modern editions of several other accounts in the Hill Collection, including narratives by William Bligh, Mary Ann (Fryer) Gamble, Richard Glasspoole, James Morrison, amd Anders Sparrman.
