Hans von Gerssdorff

Feldtbuch Der Wundtartzney.

West Germany: Agathon Press [1970 ca.] 4to. Full brown contemporary morroco stamped in blind, spinelettered in gilt. Profusley illustrated with drawings of surgical procedures and instruments. In cardboard slipcase. A fine copy of this unique and fascinating work. One of 300 copies printed in full leather. A facsimile of the original 1517 Strasbourg edition. Gersdorff performed nearly 200 amputations in his time. He vehemently opposed Pare's abandonment of boiling oil for the cauterization of wounds. Included in this book are instructive pictures of early surgical procedures including the first printed picture of an amputation procedure.
