Trip to Boston, in a series of letters to the editor of the United States Gazette
Boston: Charles C. Little and James Brown 1838 Original 1/2 cloth over brown paper covered boards with paper label. Label rubbed, lightly foxed, else good. First edition. Wines provides a description not only of the city of Boston, but also of other Massachusetts towns, as well as New York and Princeton. Drawing from a trip to Boston in 1838 and recounted in a series of 23 letters by him to his friend Joseph R. Chandler, Wines provides a well informed and impassioned slant to the topics he discusses, including manufacturing, fishing, and Catlin's Indian Gallery. Contains a series of letters of which Letter XIX, dated Boston, August 16,1838 is a five-page description of “Mr. Catlin and his Indian Gallery”. In his foreword, Wines states that these letters were previously published, under the pseudonym Peter Peregrine. Howes W-560.
