Boston: Ticknor and Fields 1863 8vo. Original green cloth, blindstamped with triangular pattern. Spine faded, interior is sound. A very good copy. First edition of Thoreau's third book. This posthumously published collection of Thoreau's essays on natural history and the outdoors includes "A Winter Walk," "Autumnal Tints" and "Night and Moonlight", all of which had previously been printed only in periodical form. The book also contains an exhaustive biographical sketch by his close friend and neighbor, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
