John Frederick Fitzgerald De Roos

Personal Narrative of Travels in the United States and Canada in 1826 illustrated by Plates with Remarks on the Present State of The American Navy by...

London: William Harrison Ainsworth 1827 8vo. 3/4 brown morocco over tan boards. Illustrated with 13plates. Spine lettered in gilt, a fine copy. De Roos's travels took him to New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, and Quebec; and several chapters are devoted to the wonders of Niagara. He also visited a number of docks and shipyards to determine if America posed any threat to British naval superiority. The plates are views done from De Roos's own drawings, and are very handsome. The frontispiece is a long folding panorama of Quebec.
