Spine with 7 densely floral gilt compartments of raised bands, red morocco label on two and three. Marbled paste-down and free end papers, ex-library label of Henry Priniers (1886-1942) on paste-down endpaper of upper cover. An impressive uniform set. Text in appealing, elegant, cursive penmanship.

This impressive compilation is an important French literary anthology, written on a total of 1839 pages, and more than 1400 individual works. The contents of the compilation spans the period between 1620 to 1785 in the form of chansons, airs, literary works in addition to revolutionary, satirical, and political remarks. The collection was completed by one scribe and indexed, but towards the end of the 4th volume, this work was continued until the year 1785 in various hands.

Text in French. folio Occasional guttural water staining mostly not affecting the text, and is worse towards the end of the 4th volume. A leaf in the 4th volume appears to be removed without apparent loss to the related work.
