London/New York 1905 Smith, Elder and Co/Charles Scribner’s Sons contemporary decorative blue clothboards with gilt coin arctic portrait on upper cover. Flat spine with gilt lettering. Title in red and black, contains 12 colour plates, 2 photogravure frontis, 260 plates both full page and with a number of smaller illustrations, and 5 maps/charts, the two maps in the flaps at the rear pastedown are present. Scott and his men followed the Ross Ice Shelf and discovered King Edward VI Land. Their journey took them within 500 miles of the South Pole. During this journey Scott gathered an extensive collection of scientific data.
