London/New York 1905 Smith, Elder and Co/Charles Scribner’s Sons contemporary decorative blue clothboards with gilt coin arctic portrait on upper cover. Flat spine with gilt lettering. Title in red and black, contains 12 colour plates, 2 photogravure frontis, 260 plates both full page and with a number of smaller illustrations, and 5 maps/charts, the two maps in the flaps at the rear pastedown are present. Scott and his men followed the Ross Ice Shelf and discovered King Edward VI Land. Their journey took them within 500 miles of the South Pole. During this journey Scott gathered an extensive collection of scientific data. This was the more important of Scott's two expeditions, although historically it is overshadowed by his tragic second journey, during which he perished. 4to Title in red and black, contains 12 colour plates, 2 photogravure frontis, 260 plates both full page and with a number of smaller illustrations, and 5 maps/charts, the two maps in the flaps at the rear pastedown are present. Payment may be made by money order, cheque, Mastercard, and Visa. In case of payment with a credit card, we require a signed order, with card details (the number and expiry date) and the full billing address of the card. Unless otherwise instructed, all overseas orders will be dispatched by express post at the customer's expense. Shipping insurance may be arranged at the buyers expense and behest.
