An exceptional collection of pamphlets, all but the last dealing with the question of the future of the French community in Canada. The first two titles, by Cauchon, member of the Assembly, deal with the implications of a Union of Canadian Provinces; the second in particular had a important influence in disposing Canadians favorably toward a Confederation, and was translated into English in the same year. The third and fourth titles both advocate annexation with the United States as the best solution to the plight of French Canadians. The fifth title is an important contribution to the history of Québec by the author of “Jonathan Oldbuck”; and the last examines a consitutional crises between the executive and legislative branches (CANADA, FRENCH) 8vo. . 4 of the 6 with front wrappers preserved. Disbound, cords intact, some minor chipping here and there, condition overall is good
