The Cruikshank plates are wonderful scenes of high and low life in Paris, obviously influenced by the enormous success of Pierce Egan's Life in London, which appeared a year earlier (also illustrated by Cruikshank). A desirable copy in its Rivière binding (CRUIKSHANK, GEORGE) First edition, with half-title. 8vo (9-7/8 x 6-1/4 inches). Engraved title and 20 handcolored plates representing Scenes fom Real Life, designed and engraved by George Cruikshank. Enriched with 25 Engravings on Wood, drawn by the same Artist, and executed by Mr. White. Later full crimson morocco gilt, richly gilt spine with raised bands, marbled endpapers, and marbled boards, all edges gilt, by RIVIERE, Very slight sign of wear to upper joint, else a fine bright copy.
