Nourse, 1763 The two principle works of the Swiss legal thinker Jean-Jacques Burlamaqui (1694-1748): PRINCIPES DU DROIT NATUREL (1747) and PRINCIPES DU DROIT POLITIQUE (1751), which first appeared in English in Nugent's translation in 1748 and 1752, respectively They were revised and first issued together in this edition of 1763. Burlamaqui's arguments in favor of the theory of Natural Law had an enormous influence on his contemporaries -- most notably on Blackstone and the American founding father, and in particular, to the notion of natural human right to the pursuit of happiness.
