Shortly after theexciting discovery of gold in Australia in 1851, Sargent's novel of the Australian gold fields was serialized in the The Leisure Hour; it was then translated into Dutch and actually appeared here in book form. An important fictional account of the excitement of the Gold Rush in Australia. The first English editon was not printed until c. 1866. This first edition is rare -- there is no copy in NUC First Edition. Square 8vo. 26 engraved plates. Original stiff printed wrappers, stained and chipped; internally fine. Rare. Ferguson 15452 (First English Edition only)
