Lady's commonplace book with 17 original drawings including water colors,pencil, decoupage over water color

N.p, [c. 1830's] (from one of the original drawings, which bears the date 1830) This is an attractive copy of a “commonplace book” - a scrap book consisting of engravings, illustrations, etc., cut out from books and pasted within. This copy includes - as many did - original drawings and painting. The drawings of our copy are fine and attractive designs, including: 2 colored drawings of birds; 1 colored drawing of a fowl; 5 very detailed pencil drawings of landscapes with bridges, castles, or garden paths; 3 color drawings of flowers; 6 colored drawings of butterflies; 1 pencil drawing of a young boy leaning on walking stick, with his face and hands colored; 1 color still life of four sea shells; 1 decoupage using an engraved portrait of Miss Maria Chalon, the remaining decoupage showing her finely costumed attire. Three of the engravings are hand-colored, including: “The Cottage Girl” by W. Finden; “The Gleaner” by Edward Finden; 1 hand-colored engraving of a formosa by Whitfield laid in. A very nice example of a young lady’s keepsake (COMMONPLACE BOOK) Square 4to. Over 130 pages containing original drawings, engraved plates (including 3 hand-colored), illustrations taken out of books, and the like. Contemporary maroon straight-grain morocco, gilt border of tulips and shell devices outside a similar blind-tooled border, gilt spine. Some rubbing to extremities, front hinge tender, two gatherings loose, else very good
