One folding engraved plan of the harbor (a little foxed). 32 pp. Small 4to, attractive modern half-calf & marbled boards, spine gilt, red morocco lettering piece on spine. Scarborough: G. Broadrick, 1800. First edition and very rare; OCLC locates no printed copy. Chapman (1749-1832), an intimate of Watt and Boulton, was one of the leading civil engineers of his time. He was in charge of the construction of the Kildare Canal and consulting engineer to the grand canal of Ireland. In conjunction with Rennie, he was engineer of the London Docks and of the south dock and basin at Hull. Chapman was also responsible for improving many harbors.
