Lecreulx (1734-1812), was one of the most important civil engineers in France during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He oversaw the construction of a large number of important bridges and in 1801 was appointed inspector general of bridges and roads. Lecreulx took part in the planning of most of the chief public works programs during the years of the Empire. This work is a comprehensive theoretical and practical treatise on river control. The excellent plates depict various techniques of damming, embankment, construction of locks, etc. Very good copy. Rare. Embossed and perforated stamps of the Franklin Institute on title.
