First edition of a rare book. Gotthard (d. 1813), was professor of economics at the University of Erfurt and a member of many scientific and economic societies. In this work, he describes the history and cultivation of tobacco in America, Asia, and throughout Europe. He also discusses tobacco substitutes. There is much on the cultivation and manufacture of tobacco and its economic importance. Gotthard provides interesting chapters on the medical uses of tobacco. Very good copy.
