Naples: dalla Stamperia Orsiniana a spese di Fr. Romilly, 1807-1808. First edition in Italian of the earliest treatise on chemical technology based on the new principles of chemistry. Partington describes this work as “one of the best treatises on technical chemistry of its time, and the preface contains some economic and political considerations which are still true” (Vol. III, p. 557). There are important sections on dyeing, pottery, glass making, tanning, soap making, gunpowder, and distillation. The plates depict chemical apparatus and processes. A very good set. ❧ Cole 254.
