Robinson, 1788 [and:] Supplement to the Elements of Natural History and of Chemistry…carefully extracted from the Edition of 1789, and adapted to the English; by the Translator of that Work. London: Printed for G.G.J. and J. Robinson, 1789. Second edition in English, but the first edition of William Nicholson’s translation, done from the improved and updated second edition of 1786, with important notes and a valuable preface on recent events in chemistry by Nicholson. It was in the preliminary discourse to the second edition that Fourcroy finally renounced the phlogiston theory. The supplement, which is not always found with the main work, is not a translation of P.-A. Adet’s supplement to Fourcroy’s second edition, but was prepared independently by Nicholson. A nice set.
