Leipzig: Voss, 1798-99-1800. First edition of one of the most complete treatises on methods of fire prevention to appear in Germany in the 18th century. The author describes methods of constructing fire-proof buildings, materials which are flammable and non-inflammable, chemicals which could fire-proof building materials, the need for securely erected heating and cooking apparatus as well as safe lighting. There is also a discussion of the economic harm caused by fires, fire insurance, etc. Krügelstein stresses the need for city regulations to be imposed regarding building codes and fire brigades. The second half of Vol. III is devoted to descriptions of many types of fire wagons and trucks, pumps, etc. including those manufactured in France and England. The author provides a history and bibliography on fire trucks. The attractive plates depict several fire trucks with pumps. The author was a physician and town official at Ohrdruf.
