In this book, Saussure (1740-99), describes his hygrometer, an instrument which measures humidity; outlines the general principles of hygrometry as a science; and deals with evaporation and the applications of his researches to meteorology. Cuvier regarded this book as one of the greatest contributions to science made in the 18th century. II. First separate edition, originally appearing in the Observations sur la Physique (1788), Vol. 32. Saussure's invention of the hair hygrometer was attacked by several persons including Deluc, Chiminello, and G.B. da San Martino.
